In North India, Mindi, also known as Mindicot, is referred to as Dehla Pakad. Mindi is a popular card game involving trick-taking and is a well-known pastime in India. Players in India enjoy engaging in rounds of Mindi, also known as mendi, with their friends and families for extended periods. This strategic Indian card game provides a unique experience each time it is played. With the ultimate goal of winning the most number of 10-numbered cards (10 of spades, 10 of hearts, 10 of diamonds, 10 of clubs) for their team and completing as many "koats" against their opponents, Mindi is considered a challenging and exciting game.
Mendy game in India is alternatively recognized as Dahar games or Hukam. This game may go by various names depending on the group of players or regions. It is also sometimes referred to by the terms indicating the method of play, such as "tase ka game" or "panna," among others. Rules to keep in mind: Mindi is designed for four players split into two partnerships using a standard 52-card deck. The ranking of cards in ascending order is as follows: joker (wild card), Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. The game offers different modes such as the 1 deck mode, 2 deck mode, 3 deck mode, and 4 deck mode, each with "Katte Mode" and "Hide Mode" submodes where trump suits are determined.
Deal and play proceed in a clockwise direction with the dealer determined by drawing a random card to decide who deals first. The dealer distributes all cards face down among the players so that each receives 13 cards to start the round.
How to Play: The player to the left of the dealer leads to the first trick with subsequent winners leading to the next trick. Players must follow suit until unable to do so, at which point a trump card can be played. The primary objective is to collect the maximum number of Medi (Dehla). Depending on the game mode chosen - "Hide Mode" or "Katte Mode" - players declare trump accordingly.
